Oxnard, May 7, 2010:  Several members of Oxnard's City Council will greet the public and visitors at the California Welcome Center on May 11, 2010 at 12:00pm noon to kick off National Tourism Week and the 3^rd Anniversary of the California Welcome Center, Oxnard.  The public is invited to stop by for cake between Noon & 4 PM.  In its 26^th year, National Tourism Week occurs between May 8-16 and has been designated by the federal government to heighten the awareness and impact of travel and tourism professionals on a local, state, and federal level.  The California Welcome Center, Oxnard proudly commemorates its third anniversary in May and since its inception in 2007 has assisted more than 80,000 visitors seeking to create memories along the Central Coast.

According to US Travel Association, travel and tourism produces $704 billion in direct travel spending from domestic and international travelers. The industry also represents one of America's largest employers with $704 million direct travel-related jobs and $186 billion in travel generated payroll.

Based on the 2006-2007 Tourism Economic Impact Study conducted by the Oxnard Convention & Visitors Bureau, Oxnard welcomed 7million visitors, representing over $711 million in travel spending to the city. This resulted in $8.2 million in sales and hotel taxes into Oxnard's general fund. Oxnard's local tourism industry provides 8,000 jobs throughout the city.
